Crucial Info for BtV Backers

Dear backers,

Thank you all for choosing to back Beyond the Void.

Recently, we’ve noticed a significant number of failed transactions. In most cases, the incomplete transactions were caused by a small GAS amount. To ensure your transaction completes, we recommend setting the GAS to at least 400 000.

When you send your transaction, you should receive your Nexiums within two minutes. If you didn’t receive the Nexiums within a couple of hours, it’s because your transaction didn’t go through.

In that case, you lose the GAS amount, which is tiny. The Ethereum (ETH) or BitCrystal (BCY) remain in your wallet.

After the ICO ends, we won’t be able to generate transactions for new backers; we will only be able to distribute bonus Nexiums for existing backers. So, if your transaction didn’t go through during the ICO period, it will be too late.

Cross gaming and shared assets

Cross gaming: When a player’s experience in one game have an impact when he plays another game. For example, when a player can use shared assets (characters, quests, etc.) in several different games.

Game assets (e.g., characters, weapons, or skills) based on blockchain technology can be made portable to other games that use blockchain technology; they are no longer limited to existing within a single game. This emerging phenomenon, called cross-gaming, makes blockchain-based games and assets more fun and valuable to players. As a result, many independent game developers are moving towards developing blockchain-based games and forming cross-gaming partnerships with each other.

Cross-gaming in Beyond the Void

Beyond the Void (BtV) is partnering with Spells of Genesis (SoG, www.spellsofgenesis.com ) to enable cross gaming. Initially, BtV and SoG will make some of their assets playable in both games. Over time, we add this capability to more assets. Also, as adoption of the blockchain grows, we will form partnerships with other developers.

How is this good for me?

Cross gaming means that you only have to earn an asset once, but can enjoy its benefits in multiple places. In the past, when you left a game, you had to leave your assets behind. Now, you can take your blockchain-based assets with you. Using exchanges, you can trade or sell them as you please. And now, increasingly, you can use them in other games. That’s a big step toward the true ownership of game assets.

Any plans for the future?

We will expand our partnership with SoG by releasing more common assets over time. We are open to new cross gaming proposals, and are actively seeking out partnerships with other blockchain projects.

Because blockchain technology is so powerful, a project could come along that uses our game assets in unexpected ways! This is new territory, and we are exploring many possibilities. We are excited about the transformation that the blockchain is bringing to the world of game development!

Nexium ICO reaches its goal in 12 minutes

We’re ecstatic! 12 minutes into the crowdfunding, backers passed the ICO minimum, snapping up 10 million Nexiums! 24 hours into the crowdfunding, backers have passed the 20 million Nexium mark, double the minimum.

The escrow question

Some of you have asked about using an escrow. We understand your desire for a solid guarantee that the project will be developed with all the features we promised on schedule.

As a team, we’ve decided not to use an escrow. Setting one up would be complicated and would add a layer of process to our development process, which we want to keep streamlined. We accept that this decision will factor into backers’ decisions about how much to support this project. For us, maintaining a simple development process is more important than having an escrow. Here are some other recent ICOs that have done the same: First Blood, Lykke.

The crowdfunding ICO uses this published Ethereum smart contract. It stipulates that the team will only receive Ethers if the ICO goal is reached. If not, we will not receive the funds and will go through the process of refunding the Ethers.

We are genuine. We share our work with you. We’ve published gameplay videos and interviews with the individual the team members. We’ve done live sessions on Twitch. The bottom line is that it’s up to you to choose who you trust and to decide which projects you believe will be successful.

What does ‘Free to Play’ really mean?

Hi, I’m Rolfe, guest blogger for Beyond the Void, the game.

Beyond the Void (BtV) is funded by in-game microtransactions. Like League of Legends, it uses a freemium model that does not give paying customers an advantage over non-paying customers.

Here’s the TLDR: In BtV, “free” means:

  • Free to play: As in, download, start playing, and keep playing, no payment.
  • Free to win: As in, BtV doesn’t sell items that give one opponent in a match an advantage over their opponent.
  • Free to sell: You can sell or trade any tradeable game asset inside or outside the game.

You say, “Hmm…sounds good. Tell me more.”

Free to play: Pretty straightforward. You can always play without paying. BtV will never charge to play.
Free to win: Okay, pay attention because this is a little more involved:  

  • Game Points: At the end of every match, you earn game points (GP) that you can use to buy items such as skills and motherships. If you win, you gain more GP. If you lose, you get fewer GP. You can use GP to purchase items that have a material effect on the gameplay.
  • Nexium: BtV has in-game tokens called Nexium, which are based on the Ethereum cryptocurrency. Players can buy Nexium using Ethers, which can be purchased using currency. You can use Nexium purchase items that change your character’s or mothership’s appearance, such as skins, avatars, holotags, titles, or Event cards that change the map properties. Free to sell: BtV is introducing the concept of “true ownership” to tradable game assets. That means that you can buy, sell, and trade these assets inside or outside the game. The Nexium will be available to trade on exchange platforms such as Open ledger. It means you have freedom of choice, which always a good thing.

What does that mean ?

All the items you buy in the shop – like new event cards or skins – reside in the blockchain and have a unique signature. They exist outside of the game’s context. You can give, send, sell them whenever you want exactly like you would with a physical item.
